As Liberal Democrats, we believe that the government has a minimal role to play in tourism. As such, we support calls for the abolition of Tourism Western Australia, the state government’s statutory authority, and the immediate opening up of the vast majority of Crown land to public access for recreational purposes.
We want to see deregulation of retail, and a relaxation of licencing laws to allow shop, pubs and clubs to open as they see fit. We believe that this in turn will encourage tourists from interstate, as well as from overseas, to see Perth and Western Australia as attractive destinations.
We also believe that industry and private enterprise are the best drivers for tourism, and support a lean regulatory model which allows companies the flexibility and freedom to operate with minimal government intervention.
